Leadership Project

As part of the first part of my internship I had to do a project that required me to lead a group of volunteers and benefit the base we were living on. The base only takes up the front part of the island and the back part is where we burn our toilet paper, put or recycling, scraps and compost.

That whole area was grown over and had no signs or path to lead you. It got to the point where I had lived on base for almost three months and would get lost every time I had to find one of the spots (which was pretty much every morning during duties). So I lead a group to scavenged around the island looking for wood to make signs and coconuts to make trails. We found most of our supplies in an abandoned staff bure (bures are traditional Fijian huts). The next day we had collected enough wood to make 7 signs. In the end my group painted two signs for the pig bin (food scraps), two signs for the compost, two signs for recycling and one sign for the poo paper. In the end I had a lot of fun and received full marks for my project and leadership skills which I felt was a decent achievement for me.
